I’m so excited to share about one of the cutest southern towns in America. Charleston, South Carolina is absolutely adorable. I have no other way to describe it! We recently went over the fourth of July weekend. Keep in mind there was still a pandemic going on, so many places were not open and many with limited options. I feel like we did not get to experience the true unmasked side of Charleston but we were still able to enjoy the charm.
We stayed in a cute AirBNB near King Street. If you have never been to Charleston, King Street is basically Main Street, with many restaurants and shops. It will also take you straight to the water and Battery Park.
This trip we met up with some of our dear friends visiting from Los Angeles, so we had 4 adults and 4 kids to keep entertained. The first day we walked around and explored the city. We made a nice loop seeing The Market, Waterfront Park with the giant pineapple water fountain, continued down to Rainbow Row for a few pictures, and then down to Battery Park. You can easily see everything in a couple of hours.
We spent most of our time eating! We found some of the best restaurants from brunch to a dessert bar! I will say even when traveling with kids we still try the recommended places in town, even those without a kids menu. Most restaurants even if they do not have a children’s menu will offer some options like noodles or even a basic chicken or burger. When all else fails we order an adult entree and have the kids split it. Here are a few of the places we tried.
A fun wine bar on King Street featuring over 30 different self serve wine machines. A fun way to sample different varietals. If wine is not your thing, they also have an extensive cocktail list. The charcuterie board is a must, along with the wild boar bolognese ravioli.
Felix was such a cute space with a European feel! The kids enjoyed pasta noodles and steak while we enjoyed the most amazing burgers with cocktails. You must also try the lobster deviled eggs and crab croquettes.
Leons was a great place for Oysters and a Bloody Mary!
S.N.O.B. was probably the kids favorite. My daughter loved the kids shrimp and grits. We loved the gazpacho, BBQ shrimp, and smoked salmon.
The service at The Grocery was amazing! The heirloom tomato salad and smoked king mackerel were great starters and we shared the whole snapper which was HUGE!
Carmella’s Dessert Bar is perfect for after dinner! They offer amazing desserts, after dinner cocktails and coffees.
The kids had the best time playing at the beach. That’s the nice thing about Charleston is being 20 minutes from the ocean. We visited Folly Beach, Isle of Palm and Sullivan Island. Each had their own character and charm. If you make it over to Sullivan Island you have to try a Frose at Co-op Sullivans.
