It’s a southern tradition to have black eyed peas on the first day of the New Year. My grandfather used to always tell me that I would make a dollar that year for every pea I would eat on New Years Day, so we’ve never missed eating them on New Year’s Day.
Our family traditionally has black eyed peas with pork tenderloin and mashed potatoes for lunch on New Year’s Day.
Making them in the instant pot is the easiest and fastest way to make them. Most people soak them overnight but this saves you from even doing that.
